Tame Impala‘s upcoming tour of the United States has a strict rule for entry – you’ll need a ticket, of course. And proof of vaccination or a negative test for COVID-19.
The psychedelic pop outfit’s mastermind Kevin Parker took to social media to outline his views on the health crisis, and how it can best be managed for live events.
“My beliefs on this matter align closely with the word of science, which is that the vaccine undeniably helps prevent serious illness and death from covid 19,” he explains. “If this isn’t your view I urge you to re-evaluate.”
The Australian maestro explains, “I have talked about this with my cohorts extensively and whilst the last thing I want to do is divide people based on what they believe and don’t believe, now is not the time to be putting everyone at risk for the sake of being nice.”
Parker knows only too well the downer of seeing tours canceled, rescheduled, and scrapped again. The multiple award-winning act’s Australian arena tour in support of The Slow Rush was originally booked for April 2020, then pushed back to December 2020, and is now settled on dates a full year later, from December 2021.
U.S. dates are due to kick off Sept. 4 with a set at Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, TN.
“There’s still time to get fully vaxxed before most of the shows (and a single J&J jab before all of them),” Parker writes. “So get a move on if you’ve just been putting it off.”
Following its release Feb. 14, 2020 The Slow Rush started at No. 1 in the Australia, and went in at No. 3 in the U.S. (a new career high) and U.K. The set also became Tame Impala’s first No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart.
