Sucker Punch to Move Beyond Ghost of Yotei as Co-Founder Discusses New Chapters for Sly Cooper and Ghost

Sucker Punch co‑founder Brian Fleming said in an interview that the studio’s next title will be a defining project and its development will take no less than five years.

He explained that shifting focus from Jin Sakai to Atsu was necessary to give the Ghost series a distinct identity rooted in Japanese legends. This approach enables the team to tell origin stories where players begin with a clean slate and aren’t required to have played earlier entries. The decision was emotionally difficult — stepping away from Jin and the island of Tsushima carried weight, particularly since the first game turned the region into a cultural and tourist emblem.

Fleming stressed that Sucker Punch remains a single‑project studio: the team never develops multiple games at once. Every new project represents a long‑term investment. On the table are several directions — continuing the Ghost saga, returning to Sly Cooper, or launching an entirely new IP. He compared the choice to selecting a university path, a decision that influences many years of your life.

He elaborated:

“If we could run several projects at once, we might consider remasters or other ideas. The reality is we can only focus on one game at a time. To put the scale of this into perspective: our next project will occupy us for the next five years. It’s not a decision to be made lightly. It’s like choosing what to study in life — choices like that shape everything, so you must approach them with extreme care.”

The studio’s future will depend on which path they select. Regardless of the choice, Sucker Punch intends to stick to its philosophy: prioritize depth and craftsmanship over volume, and make every release an event for the PlayStation community.
