CD Projekt RED is actively forging ahead with the development of the Cyberpunk successor, currently known by its codename, Project Orion. Polish market analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski anticipates that the title will officially launch in the fourth quarter of 2030.
In a departure from its predecessor, the sequel will feature integrated multiplayer functionality from the outset, a factor that has driven the projected budget up to 1.5 billion PLN (approximately $400 million). While the project currently employs 132 developers, this workforce is expected to double in size over the next few years.
If these projections are accurate, the development cycle will span roughly five to six years—a significant reduction compared to the nearly decade-long production of Cyberpunk 2077. The inclusion of multiplayer components has influenced the scheduling, which may also have a knock-on effect on the release of The Witcher 4, now tentatively estimated for 2027–2028.
The studio is expected to apply the hard-earned lessons of the past to this new venture. It remains a point of history that Cyberpunk 2077 faced a turbulent debut, plagued by technical hurdles specifically on previous-generation hardware.
