Prospective buyers should expect a noticeably more reliable device.
Recently, modder modyfikatorcasper observed that Sony quietly updated all new PlayStation 5 Slim units (model CFI-2116). The revisions apply to both the digital-only edition and the models with an optical drive.
modyfikatorcasper highlighted an overhauled cooling solution:
This isn’t merely a patch — it’s a PS5 Pro–style cooling architecture rolled out early. A major step forward for the console’s longevity and operational stability. Liquid metal has been removed entirely, so the thermal interface degradation that affected earlier revisions should no longer be an issue. At this point, it appears to be the most stable PS5 variant available.
The modder posted several photos:
The heatsink core has been redesigned and tuned to maximize heat dispersion while preserving the cooling system’s overall reliability. Examine the teardown photos: comparing the 2025 PS5 Slim cooling assembly to the 2023 version clearly demonstrates a major improvement in thermal engineering and radiator layout. This is a significant engineering achievement for Sony and a big plus for the console’s durability.
