Snoop Dogg Honors Late Mother Beverly Tate With ‘Stand By Me’ Sing-Along

Snoop Dogg played a DJ set in Boston over the weekend just hours after his mother, Beverly Tate, passed away. To honor the author and evangelist — who died on Sunday, Oct. 24 at the age of 70 — Snoop played Ben E. King’s 1961 classic “Stand By Me” and asked the audience to sing along to the track.

“I wasn’t even gonna come out here and perform tonight ’cause my mother passed away earlier tonight, but in the spirit of the people of Boston, I wanted to come out here and represent for y’all because this is what my mama would have wanted me to do,” Snoop told the packed crowd. After concluding the sing-along, Snoop told the audience, “I needed this. I f—ing love y’all for getting my spirit right tonight. Peace, love and soul.”

The 50-year-old took to Instagram to publicly mourn his mother, posting several throwback images of Tate to his feed. In a post that featured the hip-hop legend hugging his smiling mother, he wrote, “Mama thank u for having me.” In a separate post that featured Tate in a red ensemble holding a bouquet of flowers, Snoop wrote, “Thank u god for giving me an angel for a mother.”

Tate was hospitalized earlier in the year for an undisclosed reason, and a cause of death has not been publicly revealed.
