Rumor: iPhone 16 to have almost no physical buttons
Informants from Apple’s supply chain report that the Taiwanese company Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) has received an exclusive order to produce SiP (“system-in-package”) chips, which will replace physical buttons in the iPhone 16 lineup.
The buttons will be capacitive, which will allow for additional functions, and pressing will be worked out with feedback using Taptic Engine vibrators.
The volume adjustment buttons, Action Button and new Capture Button (for shooting) will become touch-sensitive. The power/lock key will probably have to remain physical.
