After more than 6 years of work, we are in the final stretch. Mina is our most ambitious game ever. Its massive, densely interconnected world spans dozens of distinct regions and contains more total screens than the entirety of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.

A supplementary press release highlights the game’s depth, promising players more than 25 boss and mini-boss battles, 60 upgradeable Trinkets, a robust weapon system, and a full character leveling mechanic. Additionally, the game will launch with a New Game Plus mode and hundreds of gameplay modifiers. The studio admits that polishing a game of this density has been a time-consuming process, but they remain confident that the end of production is now visible.

To put this scale into context, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is already a massive compilation. It houses five complete games, ranging from the original Shovel of Hope campaign to three major character-driven expansions. It even includes King of Cards—which features a deep deck-building sub-game—and the arena fighter Shovel Knight Showdown.

The fact that Mina the Hollower is purportedly larger than all five of those combined explains the lengthy development cycle required to bring this rodent-led adventure to life.

With the industry facing significant shifts, the Shovel Knight developers are banking on their retro Soulslike to make a major impact: “Selling 100,000 units just wouldn’t be enough.”
