It wasn’t only rank-and-file staff who lost their positions — managers were affected as well.
The Finnish studio Rovio, best known for the Angry Birds franchise, said it will cut 36 roles, including several managers who had worked on the mobile title Angry Birds Dream Blast. The 2018 spin-off underperformed commercially and was cited as one of the factors behind the reorganisation.
A Rovio spokesperson told MobileGamer.biz that the studio is restructuring its organisation to elevate product quality and improve alignment with Sega, which acquired Rovio in August 2023.
Under the reorganisation, Rovio is creating new business units, reallocating projects between studios, and reducing the number of games developed by its Finnish division. Some titles will be spun out into independent business units, and the Barcelona office will take on a larger share of projects.
