Dolly Parton Opens Up About Health Journey During Heartfelt Dollywood Appearance
During her inaugural major public outing of 2026, country music legend Dolly Parton offered fans a candid and reassuring update regarding her well-being. On Friday, March 13, the 80-year-old icon delivered a keynote address to mark the 41st anniversary and opening day of her beloved Dollywood theme park in Tennessee.
“As many of you know, I’ve stepped back from touring for a while,” Parton shared, addressing the crowd in a moment captured by local news. “I’ve been navigating a few minor health hurdles, but we are managing them with great care.”
This public update follows the postponement of her highly anticipated Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Originally scheduled to launch last December, the residency was pushed back to mid-September to allow the “Jolene” singer time for necessary medical procedures and recovery.
A Season of Healing
Beyond her physical health, Parton has been navigating a period of profound personal loss. Her husband of nearly six decades, Carl Dean, passed away in March 2025 at the age of 82. The superstar admitted that the emotional weight of his passing, combined with her professional commitments, necessitated a period of reflection.
“I found myself feeling quite drained—spiritually, emotionally, and physically—while grieving for Carl and managing everything else on my plate,” Parton explained. “I realized I needed to focus on rebuilding my strength from the inside out. I’m happy to say everything is looking up, and it certainly hasn’t dampened my spirit.”
In her signature self-deprecating style, Parton silenced any rumors regarding her personal life with a touch of humor. “I’m certainly not dating,” she quipped. “I like to think Carl Dean is waiting for me at those pearly gates. If I showed up with someone else, he’d probably ask, ‘Who’s that little pisser? You leave him outside!’”
Creative Horizons and Timeless Wisdom
Despite her recent challenges, Parton’s creative output remains as prolific as ever. She revealed that she is currently refining the musical numbers for her upcoming Broadway venture, Dolly: An Original Musical, which is slated to debut in New York City later this year.
Concluding her address, Parton responded to an audience question about the principles that guide her through life’s ups and downs. Her advice was simple yet profound: “Never lose sight of your identity or your roots. You can always find your way back home, whether in your memories or in your heart.”
