‘The Greatest Showman’ Musical Sets London’s West End Premiere for 2027

The Greatest Showman is officially making its way to London’s prestigious West End stage.

On Friday, August 14, the Disney Theatrical Group announced that the spectacular live stage version of the beloved 2017 motion picture will premiere at the historic Theatre Royal Drury Lane in the spring of 2027.

This milestone follows a heavily attended, completely sold-out world premiere engagement earlier this year at the Bristol Hippodrome. The exciting news was officially shared with fans during the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Leading the upcoming West End cast will be Oliver Tompsett stepping into the role of P.T. Barnum, alongside Samantha Barks portraying his steadfast wife, Charity Barnum. Joining them on stage are Ben Joyce as Phillip Carlyle, Vajèn van den Bosch as the enigmatic Jenny Lind, and Malinda Parris as Lettie Lutz. Further casting announcements are expected in the near future.

The theatrical production draws inspiration from the hit movie featuring Hugh Jackman, which chronicled Barnum’s extraordinary journey from hardship and joblessness to building a visionary theatrical enterprise that ultimately blossomed into the legendary Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Upon its release, the film’s soundtrack became an astronomical commercial phenomenon, securing the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 for two consecutive weeks in 2018. The multi-platinum album featured powerhouse vocal performances from a stellar ensemble cast, including Jackman, Barks, Zac Efron, Zendaya, Michelle Williams, and Keala Settle.

Additionally, the film’s iconic anthem, “This Is Me,” earned international acclaim and captured the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 2018.

Theatergoers can expect the West End adaptation to feature all of the movie’s most cherished musical numbers—such as “The Greatest Show,” “A Million Dreams,” “Come Alive,” “Rewrite the Stars,” “Never Enough,” and “This Is Me”—while also introducing an array of brand-new compositions crafted specifically for the stage.

Acclaimed songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are returning to pen the fresh theatrical score. According to Variety, the creative team also features Tim Federle writing the book, alongside Casey Nicholaw handling direction and choreography duties.
