The legendary artist is making a triumphant return, unveiling a numbered vinyl pressing alongside an exclusive merchandise collection to commemorate a landmark milestone.

John Farnham’s record-shattering 1986 masterpiece, Whispering Jack, is receiving the definitive 40th-anniversary treatment through an expanded deluxe edition that pairs the original studio album with the phenomenal companion recording, Whispering Jack Live In Concert.

Captured live in Melbourne during the meteoric peak of the album’s initial triumph in 1987, this scintillating concert recording has never before been pressed on vinyl, having previously been distributed exclusively on DVD.

Scheduled to ship on September 18, this highly anticipated limited release features striking black-and-white marbled vinyl, individually hand-numbered from one to 2,500. The collector’s edition also boasts a reimagined aesthetic featuring an inverted take on the classic original artwork. Additionally, a comprehensive two-CD set will be made available for enthusiasts.

To honor this enduring legacy, Farnham has introduced a curated selection of fresh merchandise, ranging from premium apparel and graphic tees to commemorative mugs and daily accessories.

Whispering Jack stands in a league of its own as far as 1980s records are concerned. For Farnham, who found himself navigating a precarious career crossroads after years as a beloved teen idol, the project sparked an unprecedented cultural phenomenon across the Australian domestic market. Distributed via Sony Music, the LP commanded the No. 1 position on the charts for an astonishing 25 weeks, ultimately surpassing one million sales to become the first homegrown album to cross that monumental threshold. To this day, it remains the highest-selling record by a domestic artist in Australian chart history.

The tracklist houses timeless classics such as “Pressure Down,” “A Touch Of Paradise,” and Farnham’s defining global anthem, “You’re The Voice”—which became a top-ten smash in the United Kingdom and, four decades later, continues to serve as Australia’s unofficial unifying hymn.

The esteemed ARIA Hall of Fame inductee was recently celebrated in the acclaimed 2023 biographical feature John Farnham: Finding the Voice, which shattered records to become the highest-grossing Australian music documentary of all time. Furthermore, his extraordinary life, legendary catalog, and enduring cultural footprint will be dramatized in a brand-new theatrical production, Whispering Jack: The John Farnham Musical, slated for its world premiere on November 15 at the Roslyn Packer Theatre in partnership with the Sydney Theatre Company.

While Farnham’s stature in the hearts of the public remains entirely undiminished, the iconic performer has kept a quiet profile since undergoing major surgery for a cancerous growth in August 2022, followed by a dedicated and gradual rehabilitation journey.
