Greetings, Flippers! 👋
Lately, we’ve encountered a variety of misconceptions regarding our studio operations, our current roadmap, and the partnerships we’ve established. Today, we want to lift the curtain and provide some clarity on how House Flipper 2 and our other projects are actually brought to life.
The Evolution of Frozen District
Before House Flipper was even a concept, we were a small, tight-knit group known as Empyrean. You might still see that name pop up occasionally. As we expanded, administrative and legal requirements necessitated a transition, which led to the birth of Frozen District. Despite the name change, the heart of the company remains the same: we are the same developers, working in the same space, driven by the same passion for creating games.
Understanding Our Partnership with Frozen Way
To further complicate things (in a good way!), a group of ambitious developers from our team eventually branched out to form a sister studio called Frozen Way. They have been instrumental in maintaining the legacy of the original House Flipper, developing recent DLCs like Pets, Farm, and Dine Out, as well as the upcoming HF Remaster.
This collaboration is strategic: it allows Frozen District to dedicate its full attention to House Flipper 2, while ensuring the original game continues to receive the high-quality updates and support its community deserves. They are even lending their expertise to the animals in the upcoming HF2 Pets DLC!
Scaling Up Without Losing Our Soul
Frozen District has evolved significantly since the early days. We’ve grown from a humble crew of 10 to nearly 60 talented professionals. Transitioning from a single-room office where we shouted ideas across desks to a multi-department studio required us to refine our workflows. However, we’ve worked hard to strike a balance between professional growth and maintaining our creative, non-corporate spirit.
Our team—comprised of visionary artists, designers, and programmers—thrives on experimentation. This creative freedom led to the original House Flipper and continues to fuel new ventures like Forgery Craft and Heart Flipper. These smaller projects allow us to test new mechanics and keep our creative energy high, which is essential for innovation.
Is House Flipper 2 Still the Priority?
The short answer is: Absolutely.
To put things into perspective, approximately 80% of the Frozen District workforce—nearly 50 people—is focused exclusively on House Flipper 2. This dedicated team is responsible for developing new content, crafting DLCs, and implementing the community feedback we receive via Canny.
In HF2, every element—from the narrative and missions to the individual 3D assets—is built from scratch by our internal team. When we look back at the first game, which utilized many pre-made assets, we are incredibly proud of how far our craftsmanship has come.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Ultimately, our success is a direct result of the incredible House Flipper community. We hope this clears up any confusion and gives you a better look at our daily operations. As always, feel free to share your thoughts or questions in the comments—we’ll be keeping a close eye on the discussion!
Wishing you all a fantastic weekend! 💙
