🗺️ Pets DLC Devlog #2 – Welcome to Puffin Isle! 🐦
Greetings, Flippers! 🤗
We are back with another installment! Following the warm reception of our very first Pets DLC devlog, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you. Reading through your experiences, creative ideas, and thoughtful questions in the comments has been an absolute joy. 🥰
You also spoke with your votes, choosing the setting and environment as the main focus of today’s deep dive. Let’s explore the brand-new region coming with the Pets DLC! 🗺️
Up until now, we’ve kept details brief, mentioning only that this new expansion introduces Puffin Isle—a fresh district nestled within Pinnacove. Today, we’re pulling back the curtain to share the rich backstory and the creative process behind bringing this island to life.
Every location starts with our imaginative narrative designers, the creative minds responsible for drafting the initial concepts and storylines. Where do they find their spark? ☝️🤓
Long before formal development begins—once we’ve locked in the broad theme of the DLC—we host a studio-wide brainstorming session. Every team member contributes their own perspectives and associations, giving the narrative department plenty of creative fuel. Combined with extensive independent research, this collaborative effort forms the foundation of the DLC’s rich lore.
Here is a glimpse into the narrative history of Puffin Isle:
The story traces back to the early 20th century, marked by the construction of a massive suspension bridge connecting Pinnacove to the bustling metropolis of St. Elis. Many of the Italian migrant workers who arrived for the project chose to make the island their permanent home long after the hammers fell. Today, it stands as a weathered, beautifully neglected corner of the municipality—possessing a distinct, rustic charm. 😉

The name itself honors the island’s most charming annual visitors. Situated directly along a historical puffin migration route, the shores once served as a seasonal sanctuary where these birds rested before continuing their journey north. Sadly, decades of environmental shifts and overhunting have caused their numbers to dwindle. While many hope for their triumphant return, few have stepped up to make it happen…
Enter Philip Green, a local legend and lifelong animal advocate who once hosted a cherished children’s wildlife program alongside a remarkably articulate puffin puppet. His television career was inspired by a remarkable childhood bond with a rather unusual family companion.
Now, his daughter Nora has returned to her roots. Determined to rescue stray animals, she finds herself locked in a bureaucratic struggle with local authorities. The central conflict? Preserving the unique cultural identity of the region before commercial neglect seals its fate.
With the narrative established, the baton passes to our visual artists. The process begins in 2D, translating ideas into concept art to align our vision and capture the atmosphere of the district.
We are absolutely thrilled with how these initial illustrations turned out! 😍

Everything is starting to click into place! 🔎
Armed with these visual guidelines, our 3D environment artists begin drafting the first digital layouts. Before any high-detail modeling takes place, we construct a “blockout”—a functional sandbox built from primitive shapes. This establishes the essential geography: street grids, staircases, roof pitches, and architectural arches.
While the bold, flat colors are strictly placeholders to distinguish walls from shutters at a glance, this phase is crucial.

This methodology allows us to solve core structural challenges early. We evaluate how the town reads from a distance, how buildings tier along the hillside, and what vistas unfold along the streets. Once the foundation is rock-solid, the art team steps in to apply weathered stone, aged plaster, classic roof tiles, and the countless nuanced details that make a space feel genuinely lived-in. 🏘️
Here is a detail we haven’t shared yet: the Pets DLC actually features two distinct in-game environments! Both belong to the same overarching region, and each offers three unique plot locations to choose from.
First, we have the historic neighborhood established by Pinnacove’s founding settlers a century ago—a district you might recognize from vintage photographs found in the local fishing museum and Grandma Maggie’s cottage. Featuring vibrant facades, terracotta-tiled roofs, and tightly clustered homes, the architecture mirrors the traditional Italian fishing villages of the immigrants’ origins. After all, everyone dreams of recreating a piece of home, no matter how far they travel.

Next up is our cliffside environment, offering sweeping ocean views for you and your animal companions to enjoy together:

Finally, our level designers ensure that the surrounding landscapes are just as immersive, accurately representing the region while blending seamlessly with the broader world of *House Flipper 2*.

Sharp-eyed players might even spot the familiar sands of the Crayfish Coast beach area from this vantage point! 🏖️
And that is how our worlds come to life! Please keep in mind that everything showcased here is still a work in progress and subject to evolution.
We hope you are excited to explore Puffin Isle. We have plenty more to share about the Pets DLC, which brings us to our next community vote!
