Global pop sensation Doja Cat is offering fans a transparent look into her private mental health journey. In a candid video shared via TikTok on Friday, March 13, the 30-year-old artist disclosed that she has been formally diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

In the emotional clip, the singer reflected on a lifelong habit of masking her true emotions to maintain a facade of normalcy. “I’ve learned from a very young age to pretend that I like stuff, to pretend that I’m happy… to appear like everything is okay,” she admitted. She explained that while she managed to persevere for years, the weight of those suppressed feelings eventually became overwhelming. “It caught up with me, and I think it always does for people. I’m now struggling with BPD.”

As defined by the Mayo Clinic, Borderline Personality Disorder is a complex mental health condition that fundamentally alters how individuals perceive themselves and interact with the world. It often manifests through a pattern of volatile relationships, impulsive behaviors, and a distorted self-image, all of which can complicate daily life and emotional stability.

The “Paint the Town Red” performer described her struggle as “agonizing” and suggested she has likely navigated these symptoms for most of her life. Despite the challenges, she expressed a deep sense of accomplishment regarding her progress. “I’ve been in therapy for years now, and I am so relieved and so proud of myself,” she told her followers, noting that her recovery has been an “eight-year process of curing, treatment, and healing.”

This disclosure follows previous instances where Doja Cat has been open about her neurodivergence. During a 2021 interview with Rolling Stone, she discussed her struggles with ADHD, which contributed to her decision to leave high school at the age of 16. She recalled feeling “stuck in one spot” while her peers appeared to be constantly moving forward.

In addition to sharing her personal diagnosis, Doja Cat used her platform to voice support for fellow artist Chappell Roan. Referencing Roan’s recent firm boundaries with paparazzi at Paris Fashion Week, Doja praised her for remaining authentic under pressure. She noted that watching Roan protect her personal space and stay true to herself has inspired her to be more honest about her own boundaries and discomfort.

“She can be uncomfortable, comfortably in front of people, and protect herself and be honest,” Doja remarked, admiring Roan’s ability to prioritize her well-being without compromising her integrity.
