“I had been with the company for only about a week when I found myself navigating a crisis with our retail partners,” Fils-Aimé explained. “Stores were completely depleted of copies of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire just as the Christmas demand peaked. Retailers were, understandably, quite frustrated.” While Fils-Aimé mistakenly referenced Emerald (which debuted later in the US in 2005), his sentiment remained firm: “Believe me, I made sure a supply failure like that never happened under my watch ever again.”
Despite that baptism by fire, Fils-Aimé’s affection for the brand remains strong. “I always cherished my collaboration with The Pokémon Company, and I’ve truly loved every game in the series,” he added. He even gave a special mention to the Poké Ball Plus controller, noting that the digital Mew contained within makes it “one of my absolute favorites.”
Pokémon Z-A recently overlooked a perfect opportunity to solve one of the franchise’s most unsettling mysteries.
