Developers Wasted No Time Identifying the Source of These Persistent Complaints

Crate Entertainment, the studio renowned for the ARPG hit Grim Dawn, recently celebrated the full release of their survival city-builder, Farthest Frontier. However, the developers have lately found themselves dealing with a particularly persistent critic.

A user known as “BigBadAss33” had been frequently posting on the Steam forums, lambasting Farthest Frontier and demanding immediate fixes. His vocal dissatisfaction eventually prompted a response from a developer using the handle Zantai, who suggested the user try a simple solution: actually purchasing the game.

“Please consider purchasing the game instead of running a ‘non-Steam’ version.”

Developer response on Steam forums

The Farthest Frontier developer elaborated on how they discovered the user was playing a pirated build:

“This individual had previously visited our forums seeking mods for a ‘non-Steam version’ of the game. Since such a version does not officially exist, the situation was quite transparent. If they have no intention of supporting our hard work, we don’t believe they have earned the right to participate in our community.”

Furthermore, Zantai shared a classic anecdote regarding the “pirate traps” the team had integrated into Grim Dawn:

“Fun fact: while Farthest Frontier doesn’t include specific ‘anti-piracy glitches,’ we did exactly that in Grim Dawn. Pirates would encounter issues like being unable to turn in quests, losing character levels, or finding that bosses simply wouldn’t spawn. Reading their complaints about those ‘bugs’ was a genuine treat! The bottom line: please support indie developers. If their creations bring you joy, help them keep the lights on. And if you truly can’t afford it, at the very least, don’t show up on their forums to complain about the experience.”
