Crowdfunding for the Super Real Mahjong Venus Returns VR Remake Exceeds All Expectations; Release Delayed Due to Success

Japanese publisher ILLUMINATION has announced that Super Real Mahjong Venus Returns has been pushed back from its original Spring window to a Summer 2026 release, citing the “overwhelming success” of its crowdfunding campaign.

The project garnered over 1690% of its initial funding goal, encouraging the developers to integrate full voice acting, refined endings, and several other features that were not part of the original production roadmap.

In a statement regarding the delay, the development team noted:

This is a unique opportunity, and we are committed to delivering a product that meets our vision without compromise.

The Super Real Mahjong franchise is recognized as a cornerstone of the Japanese “strip mahjong” genre. This upcoming VR edition will feature the return of iconic characters from PV—Mizuki Tohno, Aya Fujiwara, and Akira Hayasaka—alongside Shouko from Super Real Mahjong PII. While the classic gameplay loop remains central, players will be able to experience the stripping sequences in immersive VR, though a standard non-VR mode is also provided. The game does not contain explicit sexual content.
