Sony has officially tapped British filmmaker Paul King, renowned for his work on Paddington and Wonka, to direct a new cinematic project centered on the Labubu toy phenomenon. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break the news of this high-profile collaboration.
While specific narrative details regarding the feature-length adaptation remain under wraps, the film will focus on the whimsical monster character originally envisioned by Hong Kong designer Kasing Lung. The Labubu aesthetic is defined by its distinct look—an elf-like creature sporting a mischievous, toothy grin.
Although the figures originally debuted in 2019, Labubu achieved massive global stardom and “it-toy” status in 2025. In addition to taking the director’s chair, King is set to serve as a producer on the project.
