Nvidia showcased a cute robot named Blue, as if it had escaped from Star Wars
And not without reason — the robot was created in collaboration with Disney, which plans to use similar entertainment robots in its theme parks in the future.
Blue is based on two groundbreaking technologies: the Groot N1 foundational AI model for humanoid robotics and the Newton physics engine for simulating robot movements in real-world conditions. Both technologies are open source.
The Groot N1 model features an architecture with two systems for “fast and slow thinking,” inspired by human cognitive processes. The “slow thinking” system enables the robot to perceive its environment and instructions, allowing it to plan its actions. “Fast thinking” translates the aforementioned plan into actions, including multi-step object manipulation.
Newton aims to help robots become more “expressive” and “learn to handle complex tasks with greater precision,” stated Nvidia. The engine offers a high degree of customization. For example, developers can use it to program robot interactions with food, fabric, sand, and other deformable objects.
