New hunting mechanic in World of Warcraft: Midnight will punish inattentive players

The pursuer may find themselves the target if they allow their guard to slip.

Blizzard is continuing to unveil upcoming features for World of Warcraft. With the arrival of the Midnight expansion, a brand-new “Prey” system will be integrated into the game.

While players can accept contracts to hunt down specific marks, these targets are far from helpless—they are fully capable of stalking the hero in return. Those who grow complacent risk walking straight into an ambush, where the hunter quickly becomes the hunted.

Once you arrive in the zone where the target was last sighted, you must decide on a strategy: actively flush them out or go about your business while staying prepared for a sudden strike.

As the pursuit unfolds, players will eventually gain the means to pinpoint the target’s exact location, leading to a climactic final showdown.

The mechanic will operate on a seasonal basis. By successfully fulfilling hunt contracts, players will level up their “Prey” rank to unlock various rewards, including exclusive transmogrification sets, vanity pets, and higher difficulty tiers.
