New Chinese slasher Phantom Blade Zero hits one million wishlists

Developer S-Game has announced that the action title Phantom Blade Zero surpassed one million wishlists within just 15 days of its store pages going live on December 12, 2025.

The game brings to life a fictional universe rooted in Chinese Wuxia tradition. However, Director Liang noted that the project is a tapestry of various cultural influences, shaped by his education in the United States and a deep appreciation for Japanese anime. This fusion resulted in the distinct “KungfuPunk” aesthetic, designed to captivate a global audience.

Key creative inspirations include classic Wuxia literature, Hong Kong action cinema from the 70s through the 90s, and iconic manga series such as Vagabond, Berserk, and Claymore. From a gameplay perspective, the developers drew heavily from titles like Ninja Gaiden, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Nioh.

Phantom Blade Zero is set to offer deep character progression, intense boss encounters, and hidden challenges tucked away in secret dungeons. Liang emphasized the studio’s philosophy:

“We remain dedicated to a traditional approach to design, intentionally avoiding the pitfalls of automated, mass-market production.”

Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store) on September 9, 2026.
