The free-to-play mobile Age of Empires — featuring gacha mechanics and microtransactions — will attempt to win over PC players.
An announcement on the official Age of Empires site revealed the launch window for Age of Empires Mobile: PC Edition — the release is slated for early 2026. The title has already attracted a substantial audience on Android and iOS and is now returning to the franchise’s native home: the PC.
The PC edition will arrive on Steam and the Microsoft Store. Developers promise upgraded visuals, a refreshed interface, and full support for classic keyboard-and-mouse controls. Cross-play and progress sync have also been confirmed — players will be able to switch between phone and PC without losing their progress.
It remains uncertain whether a mobile-style free-to-play model — relying on timers, progression limits, and gacha banners featuring historical figures — will appeal to PC players who are accustomed to a very different Age of Empires experience.
