Celebrating a decade of creative independence, Kojima Productions is embarking on a transformative new era. Hideo Kojima has designated 2026 as a pivotal year for the studio—a time to “stay grounded” and establish the structural bedrock necessary for what he describes as the company’s “Third Phase.”

It has been ten years since the world-renowned developer famously parted ways with Konami following the debut of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. In the years since, the newly independent Kojima Productions has flourished, defining itself through the Death Stranding saga. Now, the studio is poised to broaden its horizons with a slate of highly anticipated titles, including the experimental horror project OD and the tactical espionage return, Physint.

In a New Year’s reflection shared via social media, Kojima detailed the studio’s current trajectory. “During 2026, we will navigate the ‘Second Phase’ of our growth, which serves as the gateway to the ‘Third Phase’ for Kojima Productions,” he explained. He noted a shift in his personal focus: “Unlike the previous year, which was defined by global travel, this year will be dedicated to internal stability and laying down solid foundations.”

Kojima further elaborated that active development continues on OD, while pre-production for the espionage action title Physint is moving into critical stages. This process involves intricate talent casting, advanced 3D scanning, and comprehensive performance capture sessions. Beyond the gaming sphere, the creator is overseeing the Death Stranding live-action adaptation with A24, an upcoming animated series, and several undisclosed events scheduled throughout the year.

While the studio recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, 2026 marks another monumental milestone for the industry icon: Kojima’s 40th year in game development. Reflecting on his long career, he expressed deep appreciation for his audience, stating, “I am profoundly grateful for your unwavering support and for standing by Kojima Productions as we look toward the future.”

Though Kojima has frequently referred to Death Stranding 2 as his current masterpiece, the director maintains that his “latest work” always represents the pinnacle of his creative journey.
