Universal Music Group has officially severed ties with Dean Lewis in the wake of mounting misconduct allegations involving the Australian singer-songwriter.
A representative for the major label confirmed the termination of their partnership in a brief statement: “We can confirm that Dean Lewis is no longer signed to Universal Music Australia or any Universal Music Group label.”
The professional dissolution follows a series of testimonies shared on TikTok toward the end of 2025, where several women detailed Lewis’s allegedly inappropriate digital interactions with his fanbase. The controversy quickly gained traction, leading to significant fallout for the “Be Alright” artist.
In response to the growing outcry, Lewis withdrew his nominations from both the ARIA and TikTok Awards. On October 30, he issued a comprehensive seven-page public apology via Instagram. In the post, he acknowledged that social media had brought to light “a decade-plus of private conversations with a number of women, all of adult age.”
“From the bottom of my heart, I want to sincerely apologize to those I’ve hurt,” Lewis wrote. “This is not only an apology to the women who have spoken up, but those who haven’t and felt hurt by my words or behavior. I also need to apologize to my family and fans who I’ve gravely disappointed.”
The 38-year-old Sydney native committed to making “a lot of changes” and adopting a “whole new set of rules” regarding how he communicates with followers and manages his direct messages.
Lewis had been a staple of the Universal Music roster since signing with Island Records and Universal Music Australia in April 2016. During his decade-long tenure, he emerged as one of Australia’s most successful global exports, accumulating over 15 billion streams and selling 7 million albums and EPs worldwide.
His international breakthrough came with the hit single “Be Alright,” which spent 29 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 23. The track also narrowly missed the top 10 in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 11. He saw further chart success in 2022 with “How Do I Say Goodbye,” which climbed to No. 23 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart.
Lewis’s discography includes his 2019 debut A Place We Knew, which topped the charts in Australia and broke into the top 40 in both the U.S. and the U.K. His subsequent projects under Universal included 2022’s The Hardest Love and 2024’s The Epilogue, which peaked at No. 4 and No. 2 in Australia, respectively.
