John Mayer appreciates a good cover. So when BLACKPINK‘s singer Rosé performed a soulful version of his 2006 Continuum track “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” on the South Korean variety show Sea of Hope on Tuesday (June 29), Mayer made sure to give the K-pop star some props.
Rosé was accompanied by a guitarist and keyboard player in what looked like a library for the performance, and as the song picked up steam toward the end, SHINee member Onew and AKMU’s Lee Su-hyun joined her on backing vocals. Though she held an acoustic guitar during the performance, Rosé never played it.
Guitar-slinger Mayer loved everything about the performance, tweeting out a link to the video with the message, “This is gorgeous @ygofficialblink #rosÉ.” The cover is part of Rosé’s ongoing solo ventures, which kicked off in March when she dropped her debut solo project, –R-, which features the singles “Gone” and “On the Ground.”
BLACKPINK will celebrate the fifth anniversary of their debut in August when Blackpink The Movie debuts in more than 100 territories worldwide. According to a release describing the doc that will screen on Aug. 4 and 8, it consists of “diverse sequences focused on each member of BLACKPINK, including: ‘The Room of Memories,’ a segment looking back on five years of memories since BLACKPINK’s debut, ‘Beauty.'”
It will also feature “compelling shots of all four members with their distinct characteristics,” as well as exclusive interviews and a message for fans.
