Swedish game developers have solidified their dominance in the global market, commanding a staggering 20% of Steam’s total revenue in 2025.
According to a recent report by Alinea Analytics, Sweden is rapidly seizing a massive share of the industry—a remarkable feat for a nation with a population of only 10 million residents.
The capital city, Stockholm, is the primary engine behind this growth, accounting for 16% of that figure. A standout success is the game R.E.P.O., developed in Uppsala, which alone generated 3% of all Steam sales. Other regional hubs are also making their mark: Skövde-based studios released Abyssus and RV There Yet, while Gothenburg contributed titles such as The Midnight Walk and Lost in Random: The Eternal Die.
Swedish studios are currently spearheading major projects like Arc Raiders and Battlefield 6, which maintain consistent sales momentum. This success is bolstered by Arrowhead Studios’ Helldivers 2 and the highly anticipated upcoming entry in The Division franchise from Massive Entertainment.
Despite its modest physical presence on the world stage, Sweden continues to be a primary trendsetter in the international gaming ecosystem.
