J. Cole leads Billboard‘s Hot 100 Songwriters chart (dated May 22) for the first time, thanks to his songwriting credit on his new track “Interlude.”
The song, on which he is the sole credited writer, debuts at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 26.4 million U.S. streams and 2,900 downloads sold in its opening week, according to MRC Data. It earns Cole his sixth Hot 100 top 10, and first since “Middle Child” in 2019.
“Interlude” is from J. Cole’s sixth studio album The Off-Season, released May 14 and due on next week’s Billboard charts (dated May 29).
Over on the Hot 100 Producers chart, Dan Nigro tallies an 11th week at No. 1, thanks to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” and “Deja Vu.” The songs, which he solo produced, place at Nos. 16 and 17 on the Hot 100, respectively (the former reigned for eight weeks, while the latter reached No. 8).
Dating to the chart’s launch in 2019, only Louis Bell (17 weeks) and Joey Moi (13) have spent more time at No. 1.
Nigro also co-produced Rodrigo’s new release “Good 4 U” with Alexander 23. The song is set to debut on next week’s, May 29-dated Hot 100.
The weekly Hot 100 Songwriters and Hot 100 Producers charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter and producer, respectively, for each attributed song that appears on the Hot 100; plus, genre-based songwriter and producer charts follow the same methodology based on corresponding “Hot”-named genre charts. As with Billboard’s yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally (and the dividing of points will lead to occasional ties on rankings).
