iFixit has awarded the highest repairability score to the iPhone 16 series among all iPhone models
iFixit experts disassembled models from the iPhone 16 series to examine their construction and evaluate repairability—this time they scored 7/10 (likely thanks to European laws).
Three key factors contributed to the high score:
• A battery housed in a steel casing, which is significantly harder to damage during repairs (exclusive to iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max);
• A new adhesive that allows easier battery removal when a small electric charge is passed through it;
• The ability to disassemble the iPhone from both the front and back (a first for Pro models).
In their blog, iFixit also praised Apple’s new “Repair Assistant” program, which assists technicians at authorized service centers and DIY repair enthusiasts in calibrating and verifying the correct “part pairing” when using new or extracted OEM parts for repairing Apple devices.
To recap, the iPhone 15 series models scored only 4 out of 10 on iFixit’s repairability scale last year.
