In a poignant statement released via X (formerly Twitter), Respawn Entertainment expressed their profound sorrow. “We are absolutely heartbroken,” the studio shared. “Vince was a titan and a legend—a visionary leader whose influence shaped iconic teams and games like Call of Duty, Titanfall, and Battlefield in ways that will resonate for generations.”

The tribute continued: “His legacy extends far beyond any single project. We will remember Vince for his unwavering trust in his teams, his encouragement of bold, disruptive ideas, and his fundamental belief in the people behind the games. Above all, he fought for what was right for both developers and players.”

Electronic Arts, speaking through the official Battlefield channel, lauded Zampella as “a creative powerhouse whose work defined the modern shooter genre and inspired millions of players worldwide.”

The EA statement further noted: “Vince showed up every day with a passion for the craft, empowering those around him to dream bigger. His impact on Battlefield and the wider industry is immeasurable.”

Infinity Ward, the studio Zampella helped build, also paid its respects: “Rest in peace, Vince. As a founding father of Infinity Ward and Call of Duty, you will always hold a revered place in our history. Your legacy of creating iconic entertainment is truly timeless.”

Personal reflections from industry veterans highlight the man behind the titles. Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb noted his love for working with Zampella, while xDefiant producer Mark Rubin described him as an “unforgettable mentor and friend.”

Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards, emphasized Zampella’s integrity: “Vince always prioritized the player experience and the craft of game development, even within the pressures of massive corporate environments. He cared deeply about doing the right thing for the community.”

Vince Zampella was 55 years old. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the landscape of interactive entertainment.
