Variety Names the Worst Movies of 2025

Renowned industry publication Variety has released its annual list of the most disappointing films of the year. The rankings were curated by veteran critics Owen Gleiberman and Peter Debruge, who highlighted projects that failed to live up to their hype.

Gleiberman’s “bottom five” features Ron Howard’s Eden, the Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel, the musical Anna Lee’s Will starring Amanda Seyfried, The Last Tomorrow featuring The Weeknd, and Anemone, which marks the return of Daniel Day-Lewis.

Meanwhile, Peter Debruge offered scathing reviews of Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck, the Russo Brothers’ sci-fi venture The Electric State, an Ice Cube-led War of the Worlds, the drama The Actor, and Steven Soderbergh’s experimental horror Presence.

These selections follow previously published rankings from Film.ru, which also highlighted the cinematic highs and lows of the past year.
