Disney Delays Ridley Scott’s ‘The Dog Stars’ Release

Walt Disney Pictures has officially overhauled its theatrical calendar for the 2026-2027 season, resulting in several significant shifts for upcoming projects.

Among the major updates is the rescheduling of Ridley Scott’s science fiction epic, The Dog Stars. Originally slated for a March 27 debut, the film’s domestic release has been pushed back to August 28, 2026. The production boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, and Guy Pearce.

The film serves as an adaptation of Peter Heller’s acclaimed 2012 novel of the same name. Set in a near-future wasteland decimated by a lethal pandemic, the story follows Hig (Elordi), a pilot who resides in a secluded Colorado airport hangar with his loyal canine companion. Upon intercepting a mysterious radio transmission, Hig embarks on a perilous journey to locate the final remnants of human civilization.

Disney’s revised roadmap also includes a new date for the horror sequel Ready or Not 2, which will now arrive two weeks earlier on March 27, 2026, taking the slot vacated by Scott’s film. Additionally, an untitled Pixar feature has been officially locked in for a March 2027 release.
