Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is handling a difficult variety of rounds. In one dropped swoop it’s intending to reprise the original’s ruining 2nd act, proceed where its 2020 precursor finished, and established an inescapable 3rd game. But to make the worry acceptable, the game’s growth group is transforming to a timeless Star Wars follow up for some motivation: The Empire Strikes Back.

“There is a lot you can learn from that film in terms of how to do a second part of a trilogy well,” manufacturer Yoshinori Kitase states in an interview with GamesRadar. “You’ve got the setup, the setting, the characters, who they are, all explained in the first part. The real role of a second part of a trilogy is to deepen that, explore it further, go into the relationships between the characters and how they relate to each other a lot more, which is very much what we focused on here.” Those social connections are partially why every character combo will also have a  special team-up attack.

Kitase remains to discuss that Rebirth (and Empire Strikes Back) needed to consist of the “big twists, the unexpected aspects” that stun followers sufficient to find back for the ending. In Star Wars, that turn was – looters – the ‘Luke, I am your father’ discovery. Rebirth most likely won’t disclose that Sepiroth has actually been Cloud’s secret dad for twenty years, yet the growth group has continuously teased fans about remixing the original’s most heart-wrenching scene.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi – that’s finishing from co-director after Remake – has a somewhat various approach when producing the center phase. “The large catch right here is that individuals… obtain assumptions of what the 3rd component is mosting likely to resemble. You don’t desire [expectations to become lower.” Hamaguchi explains that Rebirth ramps up everything present in its predecessor, resulting in a “bigger and wider experience,” that will keep fans guessing about what’s next in the trilogy. “I feel that’s my mission as the director now, to really ensure that that’s where the game goes.”
