Enshrouded Prepares for Version 1.0, but Developers Won’t Stop There
The Wake of the Water update has reignited interest in Enshrouded, bringing players back to one of the most acclaimed survival games of recent years. Creative Director Anthony Christolakis said Keen Games is nearly ready to launch version 1.0 in 2026. The player base has surpassed 4.5 million.
Since launch, the studio’s headcount has doubled from 40 to 80, with some tasks handled via outsourcing. The team has stated it will slow further expansion to preserve efficiency. Developers are working on console editions and a range of new features — better tutorials, refined combat systems, improved controls, and camera enhancements.
Social functionality is a major focus: players are building vast constructions and sharing them on Discord, and Keen Games plans to make sharing community creations simpler. The wishlist holds tens of thousands of suggestions, and the studio evaluates daily which requests should be prioritized.
A significant addition is the water element, which introduces meaningful gameplay changes. Christolakis emphasized that the 1.0 release will not mark the end of support — updates and new content will be rolled out for years. After version 1.0, Keen Games does not plan to move on to other projects; all efforts will remain concentrated on Enshrouded.
