Unverified whispers regarding the future of the God of War series have begun circulating online. If these claims hold weight, they could fundamentally redefine the trajectory of the entire franchise.
According to recent rumors, Sony Santa Monica’s next major project will feature Faye, Atreus’ mother, as the primary protagonist. This title is reportedly being positioned as one of Sony’s most ambitious endeavors of the current generation, potentially carrying even more weight than the upcoming Wolverine. A formal reveal is allegedly scheduled for an upcoming June State of Play presentation.
Significant gameplay overhauls are also expected. Faye will reportedly not be limited to the Leviathan Axe; it will serve as just one component of her diverse arsenal. Nature-based magic is set to play a pivotal role, allowing players to manipulate the environment by freezing rivers, felling trees onto enemies, and shifting weather patterns mid-combat.
The narrative scope is said to transcend a single mythology. Rumors suggest the game will bridge the gap between Scandinavia and Ancient Egypt, portraying Faye as a “hidden hand” influencing the destinies of various pantheons and even weaving into Kratos’ tumultuous Greek past.
One of the most talked-about details is a potential confrontation with Kratos himself. Mid-campaign, players might encounter him as a formidable boss, operating under the moniker “The Marked Warrior.”
Other legendary figures, including Thor, Vidar, and Forseti, are also mentioned as part of the ensemble.
Separately, reports suggest a comprehensive remake of the original Greek trilogy is in the works. This project is allegedly being led by Bruno Velasquez, the animation director for the series’ Norse titles. The plan involves releasing each of the three games individually on a yearly cycle, with launches slated for March 22nd. These remakes are expected to arrive on PS5 and potentially PS6.
At this stage, all information remains strictly speculative and should be treated as unconfirmed rumors.
