Eidos Montreal has cancelled the development of the new Deus Ex
The cause was economic difficulties, namely the “global economic context, industry problems, and complex restructuring announced by Embracer”.
Embracer Group is a holding company that bought the rights for Deus Ex along with Eidos Montreal from Square Enix in 2022 for $300 million.
Eidos had to lay off 97 employees. The new game in the Deus Ex universe was also axed. Instead, the studio will now focus on developing a project for an entirely new franchise.
According to journalist Jason Schreier, the game had been in development for two years.
