‘Chernobyl’ Director to Helm Assassin’s Creed Series for Netflix

Fresh details are beginning to surface regarding the highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed live-action adaptation.

According to Variety, the upcoming series has found its creative lead in Johan Renck. The acclaimed director brings a wealth of experience to the project, having previously helmed episodes of prestigious hits such as Chernobyl, Vikings, The Walking Dead, and Breaking Bad.

Enlisting such a prominent visionary suggests that Netflix and Ubisoft Film & Television have ambitious, long-term aspirations for the franchise, even as they pursue a grounded casting strategy that favors rising talent over established Hollywood heavyweights.

The confirmed main cast includes Toby Wallace (Euphoria), Lola Petticrew (Say Nothing), Zachary Hart (Slow Horses), and Laura Marcus (Death by Lightning). While all four are slated for series regular roles, the specific characters they will portray remain strictly confidential.

Principal photography is scheduled to commence in Italy in 2026. Rumors within the industry suggest the debut season will be set against the backdrop of Ancient Rome during the reign of Emperor Nero (54–68 AD).

An official premiere window has yet to be announced.
