Borderlands 4 Fans Outraged by Nerf to Vex’s “Bleeding” — Gearbox Did It Accidentally

A fan-favorite build has ceased to deliver its former effectiveness.

A recent update for Borderlands 4 strengthened the Vault Seekers — Vex included.

However, fans were quickly alarmed: older builds stopped working, and the heroine’s “bleed” effect (from the Bloodletter) no longer allowed for rapid boss kills.

Some in the community had previously called for Vex to be nerfed for being overly powerful, so her supporters immediately assumed this was an intentional weakening and began directing complaints at Gearbox.

Borderlands 4’s creative director, Graham Timmins, replied to the grievances. He explained that a nerf is planned, but not at this time — the change was a mistake:

“We discovered that Vex’s ‘bleed’ is no longer functioning as a status effect. That was not intended. While we do plan to address the ‘bleed’ mechanic in a future update, this ‘hidden’ change was actually accidental. We’re determining a timeline to restore the status effect’s previous behavior.”
