Bon Jovi Reflects on Longtime Bonds as “Forever (Legendary Edition)” Adds Bruce Springsteen and Jelly Roll

As Bon Jovi issues Forever (Legendary Edition) — an expanded take on the band’s 2024 release — frontman Jon Bon Jovi is looking back on the friendships and influences that have shaped his career. The updated package includes new collaborations with Bruce Springsteen and country artist Jelly Roll.
Speaking with SiriusXM’s Bon Jovi Radio, Jon described how Springsteen came to play harmonica on a reimagined version of “Hollow Man.” After hearing the demo, Springsteen called the next morning and told him the song wouldn’t leave his head — and then volunteered to add his signature harmonica part.
Jon said the contribution felt inevitable: the song’s contemplative lyrics, he explained, were an appeal to whatever guides the writing process — a request to be filled with meaning and direction so the song could be completed. When Springsteen offered to join, Jon trusted him to bring the right touch and handed the part over.
The moment carried extra significance for Jon, who recalled growing up watching Springsteen perform on Sunday nights in Asbury Park. What began as a childhood reverence, he reflected, has come full circle over four and a half decades — a surreal milestone in a long career.
The Legendary Edition also adds “Living Proof,” a duet with Jelly Roll. Jon first crossed paths with Jelly Roll at the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year gala in Los Angeles, where Jelly Roll performed a tribute to the band. Jon said he was immediately struck by Jelly Roll’s performance and has since grown close to him and his wife, praising their story and spirit.
Commercially, the original Forever opened at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart; its lead single, “Legendary,” peaked at No. 9 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Despite that strong start, the album fell off the Billboard 200 after one week.
The release of the Legendary Edition coincides with the band’s 40th anniversary and follows a reflective period for Jon Bon Jovi, who earlier this year premiered the Hulu docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.
