The 2026 Met Gala has concluded, leaving behind a trail of unforgettable moments from a red carpet that, quite notably, wasn’t actually red. Before we fully transition our focus to next year’s theme, let’s revisit the standout looks that defined this past Monday, May 4.
Guided by an illustrious group of co-chairs—Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, Anna Wintour, and the legendary Beyoncé, who made a triumphant return to the gala after a decade-long hiatus—this year’s event was a profound exploration of where fashion meets fine art. The evening was a direct homage to the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Costume Art,” which thoughtfully highlights the representation of diverse bodies within the fashion landscape.
The exhibition’s official description captures the spirit of the evening: “Pairings between fashions and artworks will present a spectrum of connections and experiences: from the formal to the conceptual, the aesthetic to the political, the individual to the universal, the illustrative to the symbolic, and the playful to the profound.”
In alignment with this artistic vision, the dress code was simply titled “Fashion Is Art.” This invitation for open-ended creativity allowed attendees to push boundaries, resulting in a mesmerizing array of colors, textures, and conceptual references. Unlike previous years where trends occasionally converged, this year’s carpet was defined by singular, bold visions. While every attendee made an effort, a select group of musicians truly captured the zeitgeist. Here are the 10 most captivating ensembles from the 2026 Met Gala that set the bar for excellence.
From the ingenuity of SZA’s upcycled couture and Bad Bunny’s provocative take on senior-citizen chic to the sheer magnitude of Beyoncé’s comeback, these were the standout style moments of the night.
