Vera Blue Covers Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ for Triple J’s Like a Version

Australian singer-songwriter Vera Blue has put her unique spin on one of alternative rock’s most iconic anthems, delivering a captivating rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep” for triple j’s renowned segment, Like A Version.

Stripping the 1992 classic down to its absolute essentials—featuring just electric guitar, piano, and her striking vocals—Blue seamlessly transitions from the warm depths of her lower register into a breathtakingly soaring falsetto during the chorus. Later in the performance, she incorporated “The Pipe,” a mouth-controlled dynamic effects processor and synthesizer crafted by SOMA Laboratory, infusing the arrangement with a distinct, otherworldly atmosphere.

Discussing the inspiration behind the cover, Blue shared that she was deeply drawn to the profound emotional depth of the track. She praised “Creep” as a legendary rock composition defined by devastatingly honest lyrics, striving to create a chillingly ethereal version that still pays sincere homage to Thom Yorke’s original performance.

During her time in the studio, Blue also treated fans to a live performance of “Maze,” a standout single from her upcoming album, Modern Rituals. The highly anticipated record is slated for release on Friday, August 21, via Island Records and Universal Music Australia. To celebrate the launch, she will embark on a nationwide headline tour, kicking off the same evening at Brisbane’s Princess Theatre and wrapping up at Perth’s The Rechabite on August 28.

Originally known as folk artist Celia Pavey and as a finalist on The Voice Australia, she successfully reinvented her musical identity as Vera Blue in 2016. Her sophomore album, 2017’s Perennial, peaked at No. 6 on the ARIA Albums Chart, fueled by the double-platinum smash “Regular Touch.” She later achieved mainstream chart success alongside fellow Australian artist Flume on “Rushing Back,” which climbed to No. 12 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Modern Rituals marks her third full-length studio release under the Vera Blue moniker, following 2022’s Mercurial.
