Madonna Masters the Met Gala With a Witchy, Avant-Garde Look

While fans eagerly await the July 3 release of her upcoming album, Confessions II, Madonna took a brief detour from the studio to dominate the spotlight at the 2026 Met Gala in New York City this past Monday.

Commanding the red carpet with her signature intensity, the pop icon made a striking entrance surrounded by a quartet of attendants carrying her sweeping grey train. Her ensemble featured a dark, avant-garde gown paired with a surreal, vintage-inspired headpiece that mimicked the appearance of a storm-ravaged ship. This custom Yves Saint Laurent creation, masterminded by Anthony Vaccarello, drew direct inspiration from Leonora Carrington’s painting, The Temptation of St. Anthony. With this year’s exhibition theme focused on “Costume Art,” Madonna’s theatrical, surrealist display proved once again that she is the undisputed master of Met Gala fashion.

The star has been busy building momentum for Confessions II, having recently debuted the tracks “I Feel So Free” and her latest collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter, “Bring Your Love,” which arrived last Friday. Their partnership follows a memorable surprise performance together during the second weekend of Coachella. Carpenter, known for her album Man’s Best Friend, also turned heads on the gala carpet, wearing a gown constructed from vintage film strips of the 1954 classic Sabrina—a movie she cites as one of her all-time favorites.

The star-studded event, co-chaired by Beyoncé, turned into a glamorous family occasion as the music legend arrived alongside her husband, Jay-Z, and their daughter, Blue Ivy. For a closer look at the performers who graced the carpet, explore our full gallery of 2026 Met Gala arrivals.
