SZA’s Dazzling 2026 Met Gala Dress Was Made from eBay Finds: ‘This Is How I See Myself’

While SZA may be known for her track “Saturn,” she channeled the sheer radiance of the sun upon arriving at this year’s Met Gala.

The Grammy-winning artist graced the red carpet in a striking, sun-drenched yellow ensemble. Designed in collaboration with Emily Adams Bode Aujla of Bode, the outfit featured a meticulously crafted corset, a voluminous structured skirt, and a dramatic sweeping train. During a chat with red carpet host La La Anthony, SZA unveiled the remarkable backstory behind her sustainable couture.

“This entire look is constructed from reclaimed pieces sourced from eBay,” the star revealed. “It represents my ethereal self—it’s truly how I perceive my inner spirit.”

SZA explained that the ensemble serves as an homage to “the divine feminine,” highlighting intricate details such as embedded cowrie shells, textiles repurposed from vintage saris, and fresh floral accents adorning her hair. “Ultimately, this piece was designed to broadcast pure joy,” she noted.

While discussing her bold approach to personal style, SZA laughed about the dress’s flattering silhouette before diving into her philosophy on fashion. “I love adopting a character, experimenting, and embracing the spotlight,” she shared, drawing attention to the glistening crystals woven into the fabric. “I find so much beauty in expressing our shared culture and celebrating the diverse traditions of the world.”

According to Vogue, the ensemble was a collaborative effort between the publication, eBay, and Bode. Regarding the design, Bode noted, “SZA’s Met Gala look is deeply rooted in her own whimsical narrative while carrying significant, art-historical weight.”
