About this game
In Silksong you play as Hornet, the hunter and protector of Hallownest. She is kidnapped and brought to the distant kingdom of Pharloom, where everything is bound by silk and song. Ahead lies the ascent to the shining citadel, and a chain of mysteries that quickly stops being someone else’s story.
In terms of feel, it is a familiar but faster Metroidvania: many vertical locations, precise jumps, and reaction based combat. Hornet fights with a needle, binds enemies with silk, and collects tools that change the playstyle. There are plenty of side quests, hunts for rare creatures, and challenging bosses that teach you to read movements rather than just press buttons.
Silksong is designed for a single player experience and rewards attentive explorers. The music is once again composed by Christopher Larkin, and there is also a full Russian translation, including voice acting and subtitles. If you are looking for a game with a dense atmosphere, secrets, and fair difficulty, this climb in Pharloom can captivate you for a long time.
Silksong is not just “the first game with a different character.” It is built around a new rhythm and new rules:
- Hornet instead of the Knight. Fast, aggressive, acrobatic. Her combat looks and feels fundamentally different from the duels of the original.
- Over 200 enemies and 40+ bosses. Every enemy has its own pattern. The bosses here are large-scale, with multiple phases and unexpected mechanics.
- The “Wishes” quest system. Hornet takes on assignments from NPCs and notice boards. This gives structure to exploration and provides extra incentive to talk to the inhabitants of Pharloom.
- Tools instead of spells. Three equipment categories: passive, support, and combat. Active tools require charges that must be replenished at benches.
- Silk instead of Soul. The healing resource works differently here — a different recovery rate and a different feel when managing health in combat.
- Steel Soul mode after completion — for those who find the base difficulty insufficient.
- Soundtrack by Christopher Larkin. The same composer who worked on the original. The orchestral boss themes and atmospheric ambients are held to the same standard.
Trailer:
The game launched on September 4, 2025, and sold over 7 million copies within a few months. One of the most anticipated sequels in the history of the indie scene — and it lived up to the hype.
Sea of Sorrow DLC
Team Cherry has already announced the first major expansion: Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow, slated for 2026. New locations, bosses, and tools. The expansion will be free for all owners of the game.

Reviews
This is the most epic story I game so far. I’m a noob but I really like the challenge of Hollow knight and HK Silksong! I love that I go for it even if I die ten times on the same spot. There’s always something to discover even if you think you know the map by heart. The characters are so lovable and the lore is amazing. The music and the ambiant in this game is sick! Once you’re in Pharloom, it’s very difficult to drop your controller. For me, its more than 100h of game, it’s one of my favorite game so far.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is a Metroidvania sequel that shines in its execution of the platforming, exploration, and combat elements of the original game. Critics have praised the game for its colorful world, tough boss battles, and feeling of mastery that comes with playing as the character Hornet.
Game that is widely considered to be a masterclass in the Metroidvania genre and one that sets a new standard. It is not a perfect game, as its level of difficulty and pacing are divisive, but it is certainly one of the most important indie games of the past few years.
It’s very rare for me to write a review, but for Silksong I feel compelled to.
To start, the art is stunning. There are some truly beautiful areas in this game with small attentions to detail that make the world feel more alive. Like the small ants carrying away the bodies of defeated foes. The same, if not better, little particle effects with the grass and bugs in each area. Not to mention the flying bugs that go past after you climb out the starting areas.
The characters are made with such love; not just visually, but their animations, voice acting and overall design make each character so endearing. You’ll fall in love with them, even your fast travel bug has one of the most impactful scenes in the game. From playing dice with a lonely bug in a cave, to battling the beasts of Pharloom side by side with a trusted NPC friend you’re going to feel at home in these hostile lands. Not to mention an item you get later that allows you to hear all of the bugs singing. Some of the bugs even sing terribly which is somehow more charming.
This game far surpasses the original Hollow Knight in my opinion. Everything feels more finely tuned and intentional, the music is glorious, the graphics are beautiful, the story is engaging and emotionally rewarding, and most importantly the gameplay feels smooth and responsive. The high amount of playstyle customisation available in this game is also very nice and I love the tool system. Overall this is one of the best games I’ve ever played, 11/10.
