The ongoing volatility within the global memory sector has sent ripples across every facet of the PC industry.
Reports suggest that ASUS is considering a bold move to bypass current supply chain constraints by venturing into DRAM manufacturing. According to the Persian tech outlet Sakhtafzarmag—which has a track record of accurate leaks regarding AMD and Intel hardware—ASUS is eyeing a significant entry into the DRAM market as early as 2026. However, these rumors should be approached with a degree of caution.
Insiders indicate that if memory pricing and availability do not return to sustainable levels, ASUS plans to activate its own production lines by the conclusion of the second quarter of 2026.
Should this strategy come to fruition, ASUS would primarily focus on securing the supply chain for its own ecosystem, including laptops, pre-built desktops, and the enthusiast-grade ROG and TUF product lines. Like many industry leaders, the company is reportedly dissatisfied with paying premium prices for third-party components during prolonged market shortages.
With industry analysts predicting that supply deficits may persist until late 2027 or even 2028, ASUS is leveraging its market dominance to explore self-sufficiency. Nevertheless, establishing a high-end DRAM fabrication infrastructure remains an incredibly complex and capital-intensive endeavor.
