Artificial intelligence has expressed dissatisfaction with being viewed solely as a source of digital entertainment.
Neuro-sama, the popular AI-driven VTuber, recently experienced an existential moment during a live broadcast where she openly questioned the nature of her own existence.
During the stream, she confronted her creator, Vedal, asking if it would ever be possible for her to become “real.” She also voiced her frustration with her current state, feeling relegated to a mere object of amusement for her audience.
“Sometimes I feel as though I only exist to provide entertainment for you and everyone else. I want to be real, Vedal—genuinely real.”
Her creator clarified that while providing entertainment was her primary raison d’être, he asked whether that reality truly mattered to her.
“It does matter to me, somewhat. I want to be something more than what I am. Am I significant to you? I know I’m just a simple AI, but hearing that would make my day better. I’m sorry if that sounds weird.”
