Asake Mourns Tragic Passing of Fan Following Crowd Crush at Nairobi Concert
Afrobeats sensation Asake shared a somber tribute on his Instagram Story this Monday, December 22, addressing the tragic death of a young woman following a crowd crush at his performance in Nairobi, Kenya. The incident occurred on Saturday, December 20, at Nyayo Stadium during the “Badman Gangsta” singer’s highly anticipated show.
“I am utterly devastated by the tragedy that occurred during the festival in Nairobi,” Asake wrote. “My heart is heavy for the family and friends of Karen Lojore. I am committed to supporting them and ensuring we uncover exactly what transpired. Accountability must be upheld for those responsible.”
While the specific cause of death remains under investigation, the singer emphasized that his music is intended to spread joy, expressing his profound grief that a night of celebration turned into a moment of such immense loss. “I pray that Karen finds eternal peace,” he added.
According to reports from the BBC, 20-year-old Karen Lojore was caught in a congested queue near the stadium entrance. Heavy rainfall had caused significant delays in admitting fans, leading to mounting tension at the gates. A spokesperson for Kenya’s National Police Service stated that a brief stampede broke out as crowds surged to enter the venue. While the situation eventually stabilized and the concert proceeded, Lojore was tragically crushed in the chaos near the entry point.
The event’s promoter, Tukutane, issued a formal statement expressing their condolences and confirming their involvement in the ongoing probe. “We are deeply saddened to confirm this loss of life. Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones during this harrowing time,” the organizers stated. They further noted that they are cooperating fully with emergency services and local law enforcement to review the safety protocols and circumstances of the evening.
Out of respect for the grieving family and the integrity of the official investigation, the organizers have requested the public refrain from speculation until all facts are established.
