The studio acknowledged that its previous approach was generating an excessive number of problems.
In an official fan chat, Arrowhead’s Production Director, Alex Bolle, explained that the former update release cadence for Helldivers 2 often meant large features were merged into the build at the “very last stage,” which resulted in unforeseen bugs.
For too long, we treated features as finished and merged them into the release build at the very last minute. We’re working with the teams to put an end to that practice.
According to Bolle, the studio uses the term “functional” to denote the minimal threshold for bringing features into the game. He pointed to the Hive Lords as an example — content that reached release in a “functional” but “very raw” state, as players observed.
