HBO Max and Paramount+ to merge into one streaming service

David Ellison, head of the newly formed Paramount-Skydance conglomerate, has unveiled a strategic roadmap to consolidate Paramount+ and Max (formerly HBO Max) into a single streaming ecosystem.

This massive reorganization follows Paramount’s landmark $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery last week. By merging their assets, the new entertainment titan expects its subscriber base to exceed 200 million users, positioning the platform as a formidable direct competitor to industry leaders like Netflix and Disney+.

Despite the merger, Ellison clarified that the HBO brand will retain its creative autonomy, continuing to produce its signature high-caliber content such as Game of Thrones and The Last of Us. Meanwhile, the service will remain the home for Paramount+ staples, including the Yellowstone universe, Landman, and Tulsa King.
