Disney Is Working on a Solo Medusa Movie
Disney has begun developing a film centered on Medusa, the figure from ancient Greek mythology, Deadline reports.
Michael Montemayor has been tapped to write the first draft. The screenwriter has become a sought-after talent at Disney, having worked on the upcoming “Tangled” remake and a “Cinderella” spin-off about the stepsisters. Plot details for “Medusa” remain under wraps. Dwayne Johnson will serve as one of the producers.
In Greek mythology, Medusa was transformed into a monster by the goddess Athena after a romantic encounter with Poseidon. She had steel scales and snakes in place of hair, and anyone who looked at her was turned to stone. The hero Perseus ultimately defeated and beheaded her.
Model Natalia Vodianova played Medusa in Warner Bros.’ 2010 feature film “Clash of the Titans” (pictured).
