Resident Evil Director Paul W.S. Anderson to Make Space Horror Film

Deadline reports that director Paul W. S. Anderson, known for the Resident Evil franchise and Mortal Kombat, has a new project in the works.

Anderson will adapt Kevin J. Anderson’s novel Nether Station and its sequel, Nether Vortex. The story follows a research team investigating the Nether, a wormhole in the darkest reaches of the solar system. Astrophysicist Cammie Skura and her colleagues discover traces of ancient civilizations within the anomaly, along with the nightmares those civilizations unleashed.

Jonathan Wakeham (The Fifth Beatle) will write the screenplays for both films. Author Kevin J. Anderson is also known for his work on books based on Star Wars, The X-Files, and Dune.

For Paul W. S. Anderson, Nether Station marks a return to science-fiction horror following the 1997 release of Event Horizon. His most recent feature, In the Lost Lands, was released in 2025 and was panned by critics.
